Description
This item appears to be a P-51 Mustang airplane based on overall design and shape. Pin measures 2 & 1/4" long by 1" tall. The pin is dimensional in shape (see photos). Known to have been purchased or obtained during the 1940's--quite possibly in Germany. This pin also appears to represent a US owned/flown plane as it has a star in a circle on each wing--much like our WWII Airforce planes. There are no other visible signs or markings regarding manufacture or origin. The P-51 Spitfire was first put into service in Europe in 1941, the original design of the plane was altered by US engineers to position the fuel inside the plane along with several other mechanical modification to make it a stellar escort plane for the US as the pilots protected larger cargo planes, and engaged in air battles, etc.Appears to be made of brass, that was at one-time plated with a gold finish. There are small touches of gold material on several places, including the tail.
